The Cottage Grove Historical Society is 100% volunteer run. We have several wonderful volunteers who help in a wide variety of tasks.

Volunteer Application Form

Committee's provide an opportunity to volunteer. In addition, we are also looking for volunteers in the following positions: 

Library Volunteer - Works with librarians to run research library. Tasks include filing, organizing, locating resources for guests, reschelving resources, cashier for bookstore, general cleaning, answering phones, maintaining activity log. May be asked to construct informational displays based on the needs of various exhibit needs. 

Member Meetings - Volunteers may be asked to help set up and clean up, as well as provide snacks, assist at sign in table, secure and organize speakers, set up and manage sound system and video recording equipment. 

McFarland Cemetery - Assists with maintainance and security at the McFarland Cemetery. Tasks may include vegitation and litter removal, path maintanence, fence repair, and headstone cleaning. This cemetery is on a steep hill and may be a challenge for some to navigate, please visit site, on the corner of Holly and Calapooyia, before committing to this position. Clean ups are held once or twice a year based on need and volunteer availability. Additional time may be asked based on the needs at the site. 

Technology Support Volunteer - Assist in operation though technology including updating website, sending chimpmails, posting and supporting facebook page, and editing films of presentations. 

Exhibit Builders - We typically create 1 main and 2 mini-exhibits each year. Volunteer help choose topics, plan out display, create display, set up and advertise. Tasks vary depending on display and elements needed but may include some sewing, woodwork, map creation, artifact selection, etc. The ideal volunteer for this position will have research skills and the ability to be creative and innovative.
